WHY PIL

Why PIL?

Healthcare R&D Challenges

  • In current healthcare, medical images are essential and their usage is increasing. This has led to a serious problem of overwork and medical errors due to the shortage of healthcare professionals.
  • With the advancement of healthcare, medical images contain a lot of information, and there is a need for systems that can quickly provide appropriate information. However, the high barrier to entry into the medical field makes it difficult to acquire personnel from other fields, which is a problem.
  • Companies that have medical images are scarce, and simply providing medical images is insufficient.

These problems in the medical field have existed for many years. It is urgent to solve them, but in prioritizing the advancement of healthcare, the workload of healthcare staff may increase, and the potential for patient suffering may also increase. Therefore, it cannot be denied that there is a deviation from the original "patient-friendly healthcare."

Corporate

Corporate Issues

  • We do not know what requirements and functions are needed in clinical practice (diversification of clinical needs).
  • We would like to incorporate the technology of experts into the development of equipment suitable for medical practice (technology differentiation).
  • Even if you look at patents and papers, you do not know how to actually implement them (technology transfer).
Medical institutions

Challenges for Medical Institutions

  • We want functions that are useful in the medical field (segmentation of medical care)
  • We want you to solve the manpower shortage (improve efficiency of medical care)
  • To reduce medical errors (preventive intervention)
University / Research institutes

University/Research Institute Issues

  • Medical image processing and AI are not my specialty, but we want to use it.
  • We would like to use image processing in my research.

Why PIL?

PIL is a rare, independent technology group, found in neither device manufacturers nor hospitals, formed by people who research and develop the leading edge of image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and lead the field. We bring medical image processing, AI and machine learning into products, supporting both higher precision in medicine and patient-friendly care.

01

A rare group of people leading the IGRT field

Our staff combine clinical and R&D experience at medical institutions in Japan and abroad with product development experience at major medical device manufacturers. We carry out frontier IGRT research ourselves and turn the results into products. We understand what matters on the hospital floor, and our image processing technology, built on many years of research, extracts the information that matters from medical images and has been adopted in many medical device products.

02

Independent of any device platform

We work across X-ray, proton and carbon-ion therapy and support both markerless and marker-based tracking. Our team is versed not only in deep learning but in the fundamentals of machine learning, and applies rich image data obtained in collaboration with medical institutions in Japan and abroad to model development. Not tied to any device manufacturer, we handle everything from implementation to each customer's delivery specification to hardware technical support.

03

Flexible collaboration and easy replacement

With a Japanese device manufacturer, we fully replaced the existing patient positioning and CBCT with PIL products. With an overseas manufacturer, we are conducting validation at a proton therapy facility in Japan. We replace and add functions without disrupting existing workflows.

04

The responsiveness and staying power of a startup

We respond quickly to requirement specifications and keep close communication throughout evaluation, assigning dedicated engineers to solve problems. Independent of outside capital and profitable for three consecutive fiscal years, we are a partner for the long term.
